The right answer engine optimization tool depends on the decisions your team needs to make. A broad research index, a fixed prompt-monitoring programme and a content workflow solve different problems. Compare the underlying method before comparing dashboard scores.
This comparison uses public vendor documentation reviewed on 30 September 2026. It is not a hands-on performance benchmark or a ranked list. Features and platform coverage can change; confirm the scope of the proposed plan before purchasing.

Five platforms to evaluate
| Tool | Documented focus | Question for a trial |
|---|---|---|
| Ahrefs Brand Radar | AI visibility research using an index and custom prompts | Which findings come from the index and which come from my tracked questions? |
| Peec AI | Brand visibility, position and sentiment across tracked prompts | Can I review the underlying answers by market and prompt group? |
| OtterlyAI | Prompt research, AI search analytics and brand or URL monitoring | How are mentions and citations separated in exports? |
| Profound | AI visibility analysis, traffic analytics and content workflows | Which modules and data are included in the proposed subscription? |
| Clairon | Brand mentions, cited sources, competitor tracking and Excel reporting across countries and languages | How can several clients, countries and reporting schedules be managed? |
These descriptions summarise positioning; they do not establish equivalent coverage or prove that one tool is more accurate than another.
Research index or custom prompt tracking?
An index can help discover questions and competitors beyond the terms your team already knows. A custom prompt programme can support repeat observation of a defined buying journey. Ask what the dataset represents, when it was collected and whether you can reproduce the report.
Neither approach automatically measures all customer conversations. A percentage without its denominator is difficult to interpret. Request the exact definition of visibility, position and sentiment, including how failed observations and missing answers are handled.
Evidence matters more than a single score
Choose several commercially relevant questions and inspect the actual answers. Can you see the date, platform, citation URLs and competitor context? Can an analyst distinguish a passing mention from a recommendation? Can an account owner correct a mistaken brand match?
Retain an export from the pilot. A report that cannot be audited may create work later when sales or management asks why a number changed. Read our explanation of AI brand mentions before defining your reporting rules.
Run a small, comparable pilot
- Choose one service or product and one market.
- Select a fixed question list from real customer research, separating branded and unbranded questions.
- Use comparable settings where possible and document differences.
- Check a sample of raw answers and citations manually.
- Record analyst time, export quality and whether findings produce useful tasks.
- Assess the total cost of the workflow, including review and implementation.
Use the pilot to answer a practical question: will this tool help your team make better decisions within the resources available? Do not select a platform simply because its score looks more favourable.
Questions to ask before signing
- Which engines, markets and languages are included?
- How often are observations refreshed?
- What happens when a tracked question changes?
- Can historical answers and citation URLs be exported?
- Which usage limits, seats and integrations affect the quote?
- How are client access, data retention and cancellation handled?
Connect monitoring with AI referral measurement and qualified enquiries, while keeping visibility and revenue metrics separate. Tools collect observations; your team still needs to validate facts, prioritise work and assess outcomes.
Choose a workflow before a subscription
If your team has no prompt inventory or owner for follow-up work, start with a scoped AI visibility audit. If the research process already exists, compare tools against its requirements. Our GEO pricing guide can help separate monitoring costs from implementation fees.
